North Van Friends Reunite After a Decade
Two friends who went to elementary AND high school together reunited after 10+ years. They ran into eachother downtown and reconnected. When they met up, it was just like old times. Isn't it crazy how with some people it can feel like no time passed? Maybe it's time to reach out to your old friends.
You can play snow volleyball at Cypress Mountain now
It's not small, it's cold. That was the winning team from this weekend's snow volleyball tournament at Cypress Mountain. Two UBC Thunderbirds players brought the sport back to the North Shore Saturday, organizing a six-team tournament. They're already planning next winter: a full season across B.C. mountains. What do you think Vancouver? Are you going yearround — summers at the beach, winters in the mountains?
Coola and Grinder are up. Grouse Mountain's grizzlies emerged Thursday.
The two grizzlies at Grouse Mountain woke from their winter den Thursday after nearly five months of deep sleep — their 25th spring awakening at the mountain. First meal: romaine lettuce to restart their digestion. By the weekend, back to their full diet of fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Summer is inching closer.
TransLink W: R2 RapidBus From North Van to Metrotown launching early
You know what feels good? Getting to work faster. TransLink just fast-tracked the R2 RapidBus extension connecting the North Shore to Metrotown, launching in September instead of December. Buses will pull up every 6-7 minutes during peak hours. Direct connection from Park Royal to Metrotown means no more transfer at Phibbs Exchange. Bigger 60-foot buses, new stops in Burnaby, and all-day service seven days a week. Over 14,000 daily trips use this corridor, so I'm chalking this up as a semi-rare Translink W.
Surplus tofu diverted from landfill to those in need
An employee at a local tofu manufacturer started diverting surplus product to a community kitchen nearby. Less waste heading to the landfill. More meals for people who need them. One person's idea is turning scraps into dinners.
North Vancouver's Shipyards becomes Canada's official World Cup watch zone
Every game on a massive 464-square-foot screen. FREE. Up to 5,000 fans at the Shipyards, first-come, first-serve + live music, food trucks, and World Cup merch pop-ups lining the waterfront. Mayor Linda Buchanan announced Wednesday morning that the Shipyards is now one of only a handful of official fan celebration sites across Canada.
